Shakespeare had a massive impact on the transformation of the English Modern Language. Without even realizing, our everyday speech is full of words and phrases invented by Shakespeare. Early Modern English as a literary medium did not contain much structure and vocabulary in comparison to Greek and Latin, and was in a constant state of instability. When William Shakespeare began writing his plays, the English language was rapidly absorbing words from other languages due to wars, exploration and colonization. William Shakespeare expressed new ideas and distinction by inventing and adopting a word or phrase from another language, which is known as neologizing. Shakespeare introduced a total of 2,000 words into the English dictionary and he has also transformed English theatre by expanding expectations about what could be accomplished through characterization, plot, language and genre.
